Rovio, the developer of Angry Birds, is joining its forces with 20th Century Fox in order to produce a new version of Angry Birds, known as Angry Birds Rio. It is based on the animated movie RIO.
It is the first time for Rovio when it deals with Hollywood. Last year it was speculated that an Angry Birds movie or TV show were in the making. It would be right to admit that high-strung feathered friends might have a big future in Hollywood.
It is already known that the new edition of Angry Birds will hit the market in March, although a specific date has not been disclosed. But the game release coincides with the red carpet premier of RIO.
Angry Birds Rio will be a bit different compared to the original version. The characters of Angry Birds are taken to Rio de Janeiro. The birds fetch away captors in order to save two stars of Rio, Jewel and Blu. According to Rovio, the new game will offer unique twists that are based on the film. It is still unknown if the green pigs appear in Angry Birds Rio.
The new edition will feature 45 levels, but users can expect even more levels through app updates. The game developer did not disclose pricing for the game.
It is suggested by Rovio that the game will be offered on app store across the world. But it did not specify if the new edition is headed to all app stores. Angry Birds is currently available for Android iOS, Nokia as well as WebOS devices. It is unknown if Angry Birds Rio is available for Windows Phone 7 devices. Moreover, Rovio is going to announce something for Angry Birds on Linux in late February. As for console versions, they will be available later this year.
